David Ewart

David retired as Headmaster of Barnard Castle School in 2010.  He has taught Geography, Economics and Mathematics in maintained and independent schools, is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and was an ISI inspector for 20 years.

He has been involved in governance of five schools and a nursery, as well as being a member of the Independent Monitoring Boards of both HMYOI Deerbolt and HMP Durham.  He has run Duke of Edinburgh’s Award units, and continues as a Gold Award assessor.

He has coached rugby, hockey and swimming and continues to support the Newcastle Falcons and Newcastle United.

Jane Nickerson MBE

Jane has worked at Swim England for 20 years holding a range of senior management posts. These include Head of Administration, Director of Operations and Chief Operating Officer before she took up the role of CEO in 2017.

As a youngster, she swam competitively for the City of Coventry reaching national championship standard, and during the 1990s, was an England and Great Britain swimming team manager.

Jane graduated with BEd majoring in History and English after studying Ethnography in France for 12 months. Outside work, Jane continues to enjoy swimming for relaxation and is committed to her voluntary work with the Samaritans.

She was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2021.

Mary Tetley

Mary is the Chief Executive Officer of the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) which has its headquarters in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.  BSAC is a National Governing Body for sport which will celebrate its 70thanniversary in 2023.

The Club is responsible for managing scuba diving and snorkeller training programmes nationally, and promoting the sports nationally and internationally.  A membership organisation with over 25,000 members, Mary has successfully led the national organisation through the Covid 19 lockdown months, retaining membership and promoting plans for future expansion and development.

The Club’s Strategic Plan 2022-2024 has been set up following full membership consultation with the ambition for BSAC to ‘become the go-to diving community’.
