English as an Additional Language Support
Our EAL department provides specialist academic support to all international students. Once you have enrolled your English language skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing will be tested and based on your results an individual programme will be carefully designed for you and delivered across lessons throughout the week.
For those that require it, we will create a tailored programme that will help you gain the confidence and skills needed to study in school and communicate effectively in daily life. Our EAL classes are purposely kept small to ensure you have the individual attention and support you require. Once your level of English is strong enough to forego EAL lessons you will then concentrate on mainstream curriculum English Language and English Literature. When you reach the appropriate level you will be entered for IELTS or one of the University of Cambridge English language examinations which are recognised throughout the world. This transport is included in your school fees provided that flights arrive and depart on the published term dates.
A member of the Myddelton staff will be there to meet you at the airport on your arrival and accompany you back to the college.
Our experienced Compliance Staff attend frequent UKVI conferences so can give detailed and up-to-date advice on applying for visas from around the globe. All international student from outside the EU will require a visa to study at Myddelton College. Visit https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-immigration for more.
Parents who live abroad, or expect to be involved in extended visits abroad, must appoint a Guardian before their child arrives at Myddelton College. Guardians provide important support for Boarders whether by attending school events in the absence of parents or assisting with transport or accommodation needs at the start and end of terms.
The admissions staff at Myddelton College will be happy to put parents in touch with organisations which provide Guardianship services.
Full details of the responsibilities expected of a Guardian can be obtained from the Admissions staff.
As a College we do not have exeat weekends and we remain open during the Half-Term holidays. During this time you will be able to stay at school at no extra cost and benefit from a wealth of extra lessons, activities and excursions. This means that there is no need for you to organise alternative arrangements with guardians.
