Wider Trips and Expeditions

UK and International Adventure

Beyond the core curriculum, pupils can take part in a varied programme of UK and international adventure:

  • A school ski trip
  • A trekking expedition in the Swiss Alps
  • A canoe expedition on the River Spey
  • A multimode expedition across Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park
  • A specialist Climbing Academy course

The Eryri multimode expedition combines outdoor disciplines — walking, scrambling, climbing, abseiling, paddling and cycling, depending on programme and conditions — challenging pupils to adapt across environments as part of a sustained team journey.

The River Spey expedition builds canoe journeying, expedition campcraft and self-reliance over several days of shared decision-making and living together.

The Swiss Alps trek introduces international mountain travel and the demands of a multiday journey, while the ski tripoffers a different alpine challenge, building new technical skills in a winter environment.

The Climbing Academy gives pupils wanting to progress further a focused course under specialist guidance, developing movement, rope work and technical performance.

Across every residential, camp and expedition, pupils are expected to arrive prepared, use equipment responsibly, support others and rise to challenge — building practical competence, independence, resilience, leadership and environmental responsibility, alongside memories that last well beyond the journey itself.
