Ruthin’s Headteacher joins Myddelton’s senior leadership, bringing continuity for Ruthin families and fresh academic ambition for every pupil
Myddelton College is pleased to announce the appointment of Frances King, Headteacher of Ruthin School, as Executive Director for Academic Transition and School Development, with immediate effect.
Frances will work alongside Mrs Lucy Davies, Headteacher of Myddelton College, and the College’s senior leadership team. Her immediate focus will be Ruthin’s pupils and families: making sure each child’s subjects, examination specifications, pastoral needs and next steps are understood and carried through, so that the move to Myddelton is calm, supported and unhurried. Her knowledge of Ruthin’s pupils, curriculum and academic culture means that, for many families, the person who knows their child’s education best is making the journey with them.
In response to the significant number of enquiries from Ruthin families, Frances and Myddelton’s leadership team will also, over the coming days, identify and recruit suitable Ruthin teaching staff, with a particular focus on mathematics and the sciences. These appointments will give incoming pupils familiar faces at the front of the classroom, and strengthen provision for Myddelton’s existing students at the same time.
Frances King said: “Ruthin is an academic school, and its families rightly expect academic ambition to travel with their children. That is exactly why I am joining Myddelton. I know these pupils, their courses and what they are capable of, and my job is to make sure not one of them loses momentum. Myddelton’s small classes and individual attention are the conditions in which academic children thrive, and I would not have joined a school I did not believe could deliver for them.”
Lucy Davies, Headteacher of Myddelton College, said: “Academic rigour sits at the heart of Myddelton, and Scholarship is one of our founding pillars. Our belief is in excellence for all: stretch and challenge through personalised learning, so that every child, whether already with us or joining from Ruthin, achieves the very best outcome they can. Frances is an outstanding educationalist, and her arrival raises our ambition for every pupil in the school. Our focus remains where it has been all week, on supporting the whole Ruthin community through a deeply unsettling time, and doing our very best in a difficult situation for the benefit of everyone.”
The appointment means Ruthin families joining Myddelton keep something no new school could otherwise offer: continuity. Their Head, in many cases their teachers, their subjects and exam boards matched individually, and a school small enough that every pupil is known as an individual.
