Some people think school is just lessons and homework. At Myddelton College, it’s way more than that. Every day is packed, but in a way that makes you feel excited and involved – not rushed. Here’s what a normal day looks like from my point of view…
8:30–8:40 | Registration
I start the day in form with my tutor and a small group of friends. It’s a nice, calm way to settle in. We check in with each other, talk about any news, and sometimes have a chat about what we’ve been up to outside of school. It makes me feel like someone actually notices how I’m doing – not just whether I’m present or not.
8:40–9:35 | Maths
Maths is first, which I used to dread, but the classes are small, so if I’m stuck the teacher explains things one-on-one. Today we were working on fractions and word problems, and I finally got the hang of one tricky question I’d been stuck on last week. It’s that little “aha” moment that makes me love the challenge.
9:35–10:30 | Science
Science is hands-on, which is way more fun than sitting at a desk. We did a small chemistry experiment today to see how different liquids react with baking soda. I love how we get to talk through what’s happening instead of just copying notes – it actually makes sense when you see it work in real life.
10:30–10:50 | Break
Break is my time to recharge. I usually grab some fruit and a hot chocolate and meet friends outside. If I’m feeling a bit tired, I sometimes head to the Wellbeing Room for a few quiet minutes with a book. It’s nice to have the choice – sometimes I want to chat, sometimes I just need to breathe.
10:50–11:45 | English
English is one of my favourite lessons. We were analysing a poem today and then writing our own stanzas. I love sharing my ideas in group discussions, and our teacher encourages us to push ourselves creatively. It’s not just about writing properly – it’s about making your voice heard.
11:45–12:40 | History
History is really interactive. Today we were debating why certain events happened the way they did and looking at some real historic letters. Last term we went on a trip to a local museum to see artifacts from the Victorian era, which made everything we’d learned suddenly feel real.
12:40–1:30 | Lunch
Lunch is honestly one of my favourite parts of the day. I usually go for a baked potato with beans or tuna and fill my plate at the salad bar – it’s my go-to combo. After eating, I usually head to netball practice or meet friends to play a quick game in the sports hall. Even if I’m not doing a club, it’s a chance to relax and chat.
1:30–2:10 | Assembly
Assembly is a time when the whole school comes together. We celebrate achievements, hear about upcoming events, and reflect on values and wellbeing. It’s kind of inspiring to see people recognised for their hard work – makes you feel proud of our school community.
2:10–3:05 | Drama
Drama is always fun. Today we were working on a short performance in pairs. I’m not the most confident in front of a crowd, but the supportive environment makes it easier to push myself. By the end, I was actually enjoying performing – and laughing a lot at everyone’s creative ideas.
3:05–4:00 | Outdoor Adventure Education
Outdoor Adventure is where the real excitement happens. We had a team challenge building shelters and then went for a short hike. Sometimes we get to do bigger trips – last term we went rock climbing, and it was terrifying and amazing at the same time. I’ve learned so much about teamwork and resilience here.
4:00–5:00 | Co-Curricular – Netball/Football
After school, I head to netball practice (or football if it’s a training day). The coaches push you to improve, but it’s fun too. I like how it’s not just about winning – it’s about improving your skills, being part of a team and having fun.
After 5:00 | Evening
Day students go home after practice, while boarders head to their houses for prep, dinner and evening activities. By the end of the day, I’m tired but happy – it feels like I’ve done a bit of everything, learned something new and spent time with friends.
Being at Myddelton College isn’t just about lessons – it’s about learning, growing, and actually enjoying the process. Every day is different, but every day leaves you feeling more confident, capable, and part of a community.
