Fair Trade – Snack Attack Competition

By Joanne Orchard

Last month, students from Years 7 and 8 took part in sessions to raise awareness of Fair Trade, including the national Traidcraft Snack Attack competition. Their task was to create a new Fair Trade snack and devise their own packaging and marketing campaign to be presented to their peers. They had to reflect on their learning about Fair Trade, the skills they developed, and any difficult decisions they had to overcome.

They also enjoyed a blind taste-testing session, spotting the difference between Fair Trade and non-Fair Trade bananas and chocolate. All students participated enthusiastically in the day’s sessions, and the quality of work was outstanding. A big well done to Patt Subenja, Seren Catherall-Jones, Philippa Smith-Edwards, and Emily Foulkes who won the in-school prize for their snack ‘Choco-Fruit’.
