Further Learning

We strongly believe that activities outside of the academic curriculum play an important part of children’s enrichment, social development and performance enhancement. Myddelton offers a programme which develops a range of skills whether in Music, Drama, Art or Sport. Extra-curricular activities take place at lunchtime, after school and at weekends; however they are compulsory every Wednesday to all age groups.

For students interested in physical activities the school has a variety of sports facilities including a outdoor heated swimming-pool, tennis courts, climbing walls and a caving centre We encourage students who enjoy more creative pursuits to join activities such as cookery, drama and dance classes as well as the chance to showcase their musical talents in our on-site recording studio.

Students are encouraged to participate in an extensive range of qualifications outside of the academic curriculum. These further learning activities are designed to ensure that each student further develops their personal attributes whilst having fun. The ultimate goal of our further learning programme is to fully equip students for life after college. The activities range from outdoors experiences to community contribution.

Outdoor Experiences

By engaging in outdoor experiences students will develop additional skills such as teamwork, leadership, resilience and determination. These are achieved through exciting opportunities to earn extra qualifications in a variety of areas from basic ‘Expedition Leadership Awards’ to courses in Mountain Climbing.  We believes this provides a rewarding feeling of self-achievement and builds confidence in students.

Community Contribution

Students will be fully engaged in activities that support communities locally, nationally or globally.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is strongly supported by the college and encourages charitable work amongst your activities. Students can volunteer by helping a charity or an organisation or may be involved in a Coaching, Teaching or Leadership programme with the hope of finishing the scheme with a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award.

The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) enables students’ natural spirit of adventure to be exploited to the full. It offers students a broad range of challenging, exciting, adventurous and educational activities.
