Mrs Hughes said: “He’s crazy enough to be climbing the three peaks and cycling between them in only five days, All for Sports Relief.

“He was such a gentleman to take pictures and give autographs to everyone there even though he must have been exhausted and still had approximately 40 miles to go before he was finished for the day.

“He was even nice enough to give a shout out to our Beauty and the Beast production.”

Some of the pupils appeared on the radio broadcast, hosted by fellow DJ Adele Roberts from A special BBC portable recording studio, before the stars joined Mr James on the road, where he continued to cycle until 10.30pm.

The Gregathalon is a sequel to Mr James’ 2016 challenge of completing five triathlons in five days for BBC’s Sport Relief. This year’s challenge will see him complete 500 miles in total, finishing on Ben Nevis.
